Discover two of Japan’s most iconic destinations on a day trip from Nagano. Begin with a visit to Togakushi Shrine, hidden deep in the mountains. Explore five shrines, each dedicated to different deities, blessing visitors with good fortune, academic success, family safety, luck, and love.
Walk along the 2-kilometer cedar-lined path leading to Okusha Shrine, a breathtaking “power spot” filled with an atmosphere of mystery and reverence. Located in the serene Togakushi Highlands, the area is also famous for fresh mountain air, forest bathing, and scenic hiking trails.
Next, head to Jigokudani Monkey Park, home to the world-famous snow monkeys. See wild Japanese macaques soaking in natural hot springs to keep warm during the snowy season — a rare and enchanting sight found nowhere else on Earth.
Observe around 150 monkeys up close year-round in their natural environment. The journey requires a 30–40 minute scenic forest walk, offering stunning views of Nagano’s mountains along the way.
