Refuge de Lognan
Chamonix
The Refuge de Lognan is a very well-kept secret amongst skiers and walkers looking for something more authentic and relaxed in the Grands Montets area.
Open in summer during July and August and winter for the whole of the time the pistes are open, the Refuge de Lognan offers a warm welcome, whether you sit in the rustic dining room, or soak up the sun on the terrace.
It's not the easiest of mountain restaurants to get to, but it IS worth it. In winter, experienced skiers can stop off their after heading down from the top Grands Montets cable car or La Herse, or even off pisting it from Bochard. You'll find the refuge subtly signposted from the traverse final section of the Point de Vue black piste which the Blanchots piste also funnels into. If not you can walk up, but is rather heavy going.
In the summer the walk along takes around 30minutes from the arrival station of the Lognan cable car (the one that brings you up from the car park) and is a pleasant route.
Regarding the menu, expect simple but very tasty freshly prepared meals such as croutes, salads and omelettes, all of which taste really rather fine in all the fresh mountain air at 2077m above sea level!
As well as offering food and drinks during the day to hungry skiers, the Refuge de Lognan, which is looked after by a very convivial man, Clo, can also sleep up to 14 on a half board basis, at a cost of 75€ per person.
