Description

Jozani Forest is Zanzibar’s last remaining indigenous forest, located 35 km southeast of Zanzibar City. Covering 10 km², it offers a rare glimpse into the island’s natural heritage. The environment feels cooler and denser with the scent of damp earth, cloves, and century-old mahogany trees.

The forest is home to the unique Zanzibar red colobus monkeys, known for their curiosity and relaxed behavior in low branches. Alongside them, you can spot blue monkeys, elephant shrews, chameleons, and more than 40 bird species, whose calls replace the sound of the ocean.

After exploring the forest, visit Salam Cave near Kizimkazi Village on Zanzibar’s south coast. This natural limestone cavern contains crystal-clear turquoise water where rescued sea turtles live. These turtles were saved from injuries caused by fishing nets or poachers. Visitors can swim in the warm, waist-deep water alongside these gentle turtles, offering a respectful and memorable wildlife interaction.
