MMM Juval Museum in Vinschgau: Spiritual and Cultural Mountain Exhibits
The MMM Juval Museum in Vinschgau offers visitors a deep exploration of mountains' spiritual and cultural meanings, suited for those interested in mountain mythology and art.
Description
The museum, located in Juval Castle, features a permanent exhibition titled 'Myth of the Mountain,' presenting the religious dimension of mountains through diverse art collections. Highlights include a Tibetica collection, galleries showcasing holy mountain paintings, masks from five continents, a unique Gesar of Ling display, a Tantra Room, and the Expedition Cellar.
Mountains have guided humanity for millions of years and symbolize aspects beyond modern mountaineering’s 250-year history. The exhibition explores mountains like the Dolomites, West Alps, Andes, and Himalayas as sites of cultural and spiritual significance. Special attention is given to Milarepa and other peaks sacred to local communities, such as Mount Kailash, Fujiyama, and Uluru.
Juval Castle itself, perched on a rocky promontory and adorned with frescoes by B. Till Riemenschneider, offers visitors access to its courtyards and multiple rooms as part of the museum experience.
