Description
Angélique, your local guide, will pick you up at either 1:30 PM at Reims Central Station or 2:00 PM at the Épernay tourist office. You will visit two independent champagne wineries located in the Montagne de Reims and Marne Valley subregions, where Pinot grapes dominate alongside some Chardonnay.
These family-owned vineyards cover 90% of Champagne’s 34,000 hectares and supply grapes to major Champagne houses. The tour offers an in-depth look at their wine-making heritage, passed down through generations, paired with tastings in intimate cellar settings.
The afternoon includes a van city tour of Épernay, known for its prestigious Champagne avenue lined with renowned houses such as Moët & Chandon, Perrier-Jouët, and Pol Roger. Discover the architectural heritage tied to one of the world’s largest Champagne producers, with over 220 million bottles aging in its cellars.
Next, the tour continues to the village of Hautvillers, birthplace of Dom Pérignon, the Benedictine monk credited with pioneering grape blending techniques to enhance Champagne’s quality. Visit the abbey where he is buried and enjoy panoramic views over the Marne River and Cote des Blancs.
There is also a vineyard stop to learn about Champagne’s terroir, including manual vineyard work, pruning methods, and grape harvesting, emphasizing the year-round care required by vineyard workers.
The tour concludes with return transport to your pick-up point in Reims or Épernay between 5:30 PM and 6:00 PM.
