Description
The tour begins in the fjord village of Flåm, located at the inner end of the Aurlandsfjord. You will first visit Tvindefossen waterfall, which cascades approximately 110 meters down a rock face. Here, you can approach the waterfall closely to feel the cool mist. Local folklore says the waterfall’s waters have “fountain of youth” qualities.
Next, you travel to Stalheim, overlooking the Nærøydalen Valley. You will walk along Stalheimskleiva, one of Northern Europe’s steepest historic mountain roads built between 1842 and 1846, featuring 13 hairpin bends. Along the way, view the Sivlefossen and Stalheimsfossen waterfalls that drop on opposite sides of the glacier-carved valley.
The journey continues to Gudvangen at the head of the Nærøyfjord, one of the narrowest fjords in the world and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The fjord narrows to about 250 meters with mountains reaching over 1,700 meters above the water.
The return trip to Flåm offers new perspectives on the landscape as you relax on the scenic drive back.
