Description
Tatev Monastery offers insight into Armenian culture, architecture, and history. The 10th-century St. Paul and Peter Church stands at the edge of a gorge. The site was formerly a university and later a center for the liberation movement led by Garegin Nzhdeh.
Khndzoresk swinging bridge spans a 63-meter-high gorge and stretches 160 meters long. The nearby rock-hewn village once housed up to 15,000 people living in caves until the 1950s. The area is historically important, with the grave of liberation leader Mkhitar Sparapet. If weather is poor, the visit to Khndzoresk waterfall may be replaced with a scenic tour of Old Goris.
Shaki waterfall falls 16 meters and is tied to a local legend about a girl saved by its waters. It is a favored natural site in southern Armenia. In bad weather, this stop may be replaced by the Harsnadzor viewpoint for panoramic views.
Areni wine factory concludes the tour with wine tasting at Armenia’s winemaking center. Guests can sample wines made from Areni grapes, visit the cellar, and relax in the café upstairs.
