Description
Masino Castle has stood for over a thousand years on high ground facing the Serra di Ivrea morainic barrier, overlooking the vast Canavese plain. Its strategic position made it a frequent target, but the noble Valperga family, reportedly descended from Arduin of Ivrea, the first King of Italy, has owned it since at least 1070.
The family transformed the castle into an aristocratic residence and later into an elegant holiday home. Inside, the halls feature frescoes and period furnishings, including bedrooms for visiting ambassadors, private apartments, lounges, and panoramic terraces. These spaces reflect 17th- and 18th-century culture and include a library with over 25,000 antique volumes dedicated to knowledge.
Outside, the grounds encompass one of Italy’s largest mazes, a tree-lined boulevard, large clearings, and scenic areas that bloom in spring. Visitors can explore different routes around the castle or enjoy outdoor activities and frequent events. The panoramic cafeteria offers a place to relax. The site is especially suitable for children, with activities designed for family enjoyment.
