Belmont Mansion is the largest pre-Civil War house still standing in Nashville, located on Belmont University’s campus. The mansion reveals the lives of those who lived and worked on the estate, capturing social history through its original furniture, artwork, and statuary.
The mansion evolved from a lavish summer home to serve as Union army headquarters during the Civil War and later became a women’s college and seminary. It once featured extensive gardens, an art gallery, a bowling alley, and a private zoo, reflecting the Acklen family’s distinctive vision.
This self-guided tour allows visitors to explore at their own pace with interpretive displays and staff available to answer questions. The visit concludes at the mansion, with the option to further explore the university campus or return to downtown Nashville.
