Description

This guided hike offers a comfortable and comprehensive way to experience Caminito del Rey, one of southern Spain’s most remarkable walking routes. Walk along suspended pathways over 100 meters above the Gaitanes gorge, and cross the new longest hanging bridge in Spain, guided by an official local expert who shares insights on the site’s history, nature, and engineering.

The meeting point is at La Garganta Hotel and Restaurant reception, near the south entrance to Caminito del Rey, just 100 meters from El Chorro–Caminito del Rey train station. After a short introduction, take the included shuttle bus from the south entrance to the north entry at Ardales, enjoying panoramic views of the Conde de Guadalhorce reservoir en route.

Before reaching the official access checkpoint, you’ll pass through a rock tunnel and enjoy a pleasant 15-minute walk surrounded by Mediterranean vegetation while learning about King Alfonso XIII and the origin of this engineering landmark. At the entrance, you will receive a safety helmet and clear instructions to start the hike with confidence.

The route covers over 3 km of narrow suspended walkways attached to vertical cliffs. Highlights include the Chocolate Steps (also called Butter Steps), Tajo de las Palomas canyon, the contrast between the old and new Caminito paths, King’s Bridge, Crystal Viewing Platform, Hoyo Valley, and the narrow Grand Gaitán gorge.

You will cross the iconic hanging bridges, including the new longest one offering dramatic views of the Chorro reservoir and surrounding formations. After crossing, a scenic descending trail returns to the south access, ending again at La Garganta Hotel and Restaurant—a convenient place to relax or catch train or car transport.

You can optionally upgrade your day with rock climbing (approximately 3 hours) or an electric bike tour (approximately 2 hours) around El Chorro.
