Description

Take the short journey to the northern suburbs of Paris, and arrive at the incredible Basilique Saint-Denis. Built on the grave of Saint-Denis, the royal abbey was the burial place of 43 kings, 32 queens, and 10 servants to the monarchy. The basilica was raised to the rank of cathedral in 1966. Discover the largest collection of funerary sculpture from the 12th to the 16th-centuries contained within the basilica's walls. Admire stunning examples of Gothic art and architecture as you stroll through the inside and outside of the building. Find out how the architect's emphasis on the importance of light, a symbol of divinity, was revolutionary at its time. See the last resting place of the Kings of France and its unique collection of 70 sculpted tombs. From 17 October 2025, a new combined ticket will give you access to both the royal necropolis of the Basilica of Saint-Denis and La Fabrique de la Flèche, an immersive space dedicated to the reconstruction of the basilica’s historic spire. Both sites are open Tuesday to Sunday. This ticket can also be purchased directly at the Cathedral
