Les Houches Ski Lift Info

Le Houches Webcams

Les Houches is the first ski area in the Chamonix valley as you're driving up the Autoroute Blanche and rests at the foot of Mont Blanc. The ski area extends from an altitude of 950m to 1900m, which means you ski through pine and larch forests and there are great views of the 'aiguilles de Chamonix' and down the valley to Sallanches as well as the pistes and peaks of Les Contamines, St Gervais and Megeve.

The Les Houches ski area is perfect for skiers/boarders of all abilities, especially beginners and families. There are enough easy runs, some more difficult ones and the international black 'La Verte' piste. This piste is the location of the Kandahar World Cup Downhill Ski Championships and other regular international events.

This winter Les Houches will be once again opening its own Area 53 snow park: Airpark Bellevue, where people with different levels of expertise can practise and improve their tricks. You can also go skiing/boarding by night in Les Houches every Thursday at Tourchet during the school holidays. It's free and there's music and vin chaud too - all very civilised!

Les Houches is also the terminus for the Tramway du Mont Blanc, a rack and pinion railway that winds up the hillside from Le Fayet, through St Gervais and into the Les Houches ski area.

For lift passes, if you have a Mont Blanc Unlimited pass Les Houches is included, or you can buy a pass for a day or any number of days from either Bellevue cable car or Prarion bubble lift.

OUR VIEW: Locals always head to Les Houches when it's snowing, as the visibility in the trees is much better, but we think Les Houches is worth a whirl when it's sunny too, as you get superb sideways views of the Aiguille du Midi from the plateau. The restaurants and cafes on the pistes are plentiful and make a welcome change from the service station fayre of the Chamonix resorts. Our top tip for busy days is to head straight up to Maison Neuve in the car!
