Grands Montets Ski Lift Info

Les Grands Montets Webcams

Les Grands Montets ski area situated above Argentière village, is the most famous ski area in the Chamonix valley. Accessed from the large, free car par via the Lognan cable car and the Plan Joran chair lift, it is probably the most popular skiing area of the Chamonix Valley due to the high altitude (max. 3300m) and large amount of exceptional steep and difficult on- and off-piste runs.

From here you get amazing views of the Chamonix Valley, the Argentière glacier, Mont Blanc, Flégère and can even look across into Switzerland. Although this ski area is mostly recommended for the experienced skier/boarder, there are also some long and wide slopes where daring beginners can improve their riding and skiing ability. The upper skiing areas, which can be reached by the Grands Montets cable car, are located on a glacier and are great on a powder day as you have endless off piste possibilites that are easy to spot.

The top runs here are accessed from the Grands Montets (top lift) cable car which is NOT included on the Chamonix Le Pass ski lift pass, but is on the Mont Blanc Unlimited. All the runs  are  ungroomed and therefore require a good technical standard of skiing is needed if you're staying on the marked pistes or heading off the pistes. For freestylers, Les Grands Montets also has a snow park catering to people of different abilities, where you can practise your jumps and see some of the best riders showing of their tricks, as well as a boardercross area.

OUR VIEW: Grands Montets is a mecca for off piste skiers and boarders and that means that on a powder day it can be all tracked out by mid-morning, so you've got to be quick! You need to be a hardy type too to ski here early season as there's no sun until the end of February and if snow cover is bad it's rocks all the way, which play havoc with the base of your skis or board.
