Description
This 2.5-hour walking tour begins at Plaza de la Ciudadanía, just across from the presidential palace, La Moneda. From the shadow of this neoclassical icon, you’ll make your way to Morandé 80, a historic door with deep political significance. As the streets start to buzz, you'll step into the heart of downtown. Follow your guide down New York Street, where the early 20th-century Stock Exchange stands as a symbol of Chile's financial rise. Snap a photo of the Art Deco fountain with the Exchange in the background, then turn onto the cobblestones of Londres Street, leading to the San Francisco Church, one of the oldest buildings in Chile, still standing since the 16th century. Continue through the historic Paseo Estado to visit the Church of San Agustín, home to the famous Cristo de Mayo, a beloved local relic. Stop for a quick break at Mall Vivo Imperio, where you can grab a snack or use the bathroom (note: small fee applies). Your journey through time continues at Casa Colorada, the 18th-century mansion where independence heroes once met. Just beyond, the Portal Fernández Concha and the former National Congress building showcase the architectural and political transformations of the 19th and 20th centuries. Step into Plaza de Armas, Santiago’s founding square, where colonial buildings like the Metropolitan Cathedral, Central Post Office, and Municipal Hall reveal layers of history in every facade. Afterward, stroll through the edges of Mercado Central, a hub of Chilean seafood and culture, and cross into the shaded calm of Parque Forestal. At the edge of the park stands the Museum of Fine Arts, a beaux-arts masterpiece founded in 1880, and the final climb takes you up to Santa Lucía Hill. This lush urban park and former volcano offers sweeping views of the city—an ideal spot to reflect on the contrasts you’ve uncovered throughout Santiago’s oldest district.Includes
