Description

Discover Cholula, the oldest city in America that has never been unoccupied, and its pyramid, the largest in the world with a base of 450 x 450 meters. Reach the summit and find the Sanctuary of the Virgen de los Remedios, erected in 1594. Its choir, altar, and altarpieces are a jewel of classical baroque architecture. From the summit, get a breathtaking look at El Popocatépetl volcano, one of the most active volcanoes in the world. Be amazed by the majestic Franciscan church of Tonantzintla, built in a pre-Hispanic adoratory dedicated to Tonantzin, an Aztec goddess associated with the earth, fertility, and motherhood. This church, erected in 1730, is the highest representative of the Mexican Baroque. This is a treasure of the cultural syncretism of Mexico with features, cherubs, lush fruits, and vivid colors inspired by the indigenous imagination mixed with European ornaments. Learn about the splendor of the stucco and gilding technique plus the magnificent ornamentation. Discover the 18th-century Temple of San Francisco Acatepec with a unique façade combining the talavera, the emblematic ceramics of Puebla (UNESCO intangible cultural heritage), with red brick petatillo. This is one of the architectural jewels of the country’s indigenous identity. Visit the Cathedral of Puebla, Mexico's oldest cathedral, built from 1585 to 1649, ahead of Mexico City's (1653). Enter the 8th wonder of the world, the Chapel of the Rosary in the Temple of Santo Domingo, one of the oldest temples and convents in Mexico. Be fascinated by its altarpiece covered in 24-carat gold leaf.
