  • Marvel at the impressive colonial Baroque buildings.
  • Enjoy the spectacular views of the city.

Description

The tour begins with a convenient pickup from your hotel in the city center, followed by a leisurely walking tour of the city's most emblematic sites, allowing you to appreciate each one in detail. Our first visit is to the Cathedral, characterized by its impressive facade carved by hand from volcanic rock. It is a fine and well-executed example of Baroque art. Its interior consists of three naves and an imposing main altar covered entirely with gold leaf. We then head to the Plaza de Armas, where the Spanish conquistador Francisco Pizarro captured the Inca Atahualpa. We cross the Plaza de Armas and arrive at the Cuarto del Rescate, perfectly preserved, the only Inca remnant that remains as a symbol of the encounter between two cultures, an archaeological vestige that, according to the chronicles, the Inca Atahualpa once filled with gold and silver to obtain his freedom. You will continue the tour at the San Francisco Church (Baroque construction); the Belén Monumental Complex, a Baroque architectural ensemble that displays a profusion of polychrome reliefs, where the Belén Church and the Colonial Hospitals are located. Finally, we will climb the Santa Apolonia Hill, a splendid natural viewpoint from which you can see the city and the valley. Formerly known as Rumi Tiana or 'Stone Seat,' it is a strategic point for appreciating the city and the Cajamarca Valley. On the outskirts, there are some remains of pre-Hispanic constructions such as the so-called 'Silla del Inca' (Inca's Chair), formed by two blocks of stone that emerge from the hill itself and have been carefully carved to give them their current shape. Among the stairways and gardens, a chapel dedicated to the Virgin of Fatima stands out. Our spectacular tour ends at the Plaza de Armas in Cajamarca.
